Reconstruction of Nike
‘Reconstruction of Nike’, is a visual narrative consisting of six photographs, where double exposure has been applied to portray how the Winged Victory of Samothrace might have once looked. The addition of text also helps to convey the story of her journey, from when she was discovered (1863), to the end of the Second World War (1945). This project stemmed from my deep interest in Greek sculpture and mythology. In one statue there is an extensive history that I was intrigued and fascinated by, and all too eager to learn. The beauty and the care for detail does not go missed when viewing something as extraordinary as the Winged Victory of Samothrace. By creating these photographs, I hope to communicate the impact that these statues have, the importance of making sure they are restored, to show people what we have and should treasure.
